DIY: Creatively design flower pots
Autumn is a colorful, yet often rainy, season. Take advantage of the opportunity, as the leaves fall and the rain falls outside, to get creative in your cozy, warm home—and start looking forward to next spring! How about creatively decorating flowerpots? Your favorite plants can spend the cold season protected in them. Then, they'll move outside to their new "home" and attract everyone's attention. And not just because of their blooms!
This is what you need for the craft project:
- flower pots
- a base for handicraft work
- Clear varnish / (weatherproof) sealant
and depending on the craft:
- Acrylic paints
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- napkins
- Napkin glue
- Shards or similar fragments”
- mortar
- mussels
- sand
- branches
- ribbon
- Pebbles
- moss
Ready, set, go!
The easiest way to give your flowerpots a new look is to pick up a paintbrush. Gather some colorful acrylic paints and brushes of different sizes and let your imagination run wild. Abstract shapes look artistic and elegant, but with a little talent, you can also create motifs from the world of gardening, such as lavender blossoms or autumn-colored maple leaves. Another fun idea is to paint happy faces on the flowerpot, which can also be painted in a short time. This way, it will look as if the plant in the flowerpot is the hair.
A little tip: If you have kids, flowerpot painting can be a fun family activity. Let even the littlest ones become great artists!

Favorite napkins on the flowerpot
Don't have much talent as a painter? Don't worry, you can also cleverly use a ready-made motif. The good old decoupage technique never goes out of style and proves to be a practical aid when decorating flowerpots. All you have to do is choose a napkin you like and carefully peel off the top layer, which has the motif on it. Then cut it to size and adhere it to the flowerpot with decoupage glue. Seal your work of art with varnish – and you're done!
Upcycling with broken pieces
What a bummer: Your favorite mug has fallen down and is lying there in pieces. They say broken pieces bring good luck, but you still wish you had kept your mug. We have a great solution for you: How about carefully gathering the largest pieces and giving them a new purpose? Namely, to decorate your flowerpot! To do this, simply glue the pieces to the pot with superglue, similar to a creative mosaic. Then let them dry thoroughly and fill the gaps with mortar. After a drying time of about 12-24 hours, you can wipe the excess mortar off the cup shards and seal the entire pot with clear varnish. You'll not only have a unique piece for your plant, but also your beloved mug back in a slightly different form!
Tip: Also works great with broken vases, CDs (glue the bottom side up) or ceramics.
Maritime beauties
To give your flowerpot a nautical look, you'll need shells and sand from your last vacation. Glue the shells around the rim to create a chic border. Dip the bottom of the pot first in liquid glue, then in sand. Perhaps you'd like to leave a little space between the sand and the shell border to add the finishing touch by painting the pot with motifs like seagulls, dolphins, or lifebuoys?
