It's been exactly one month since DieStadtgärtner sprouted up—after almost a year of germination. Time to take stock and see how things are going for DieStadtgärtner.

So, first the most important thing: With 16 sales on our site, we've earned €477.31 so far. So, the average order value was €29.83, which is almost exactly 4 bags.

That's offset by €155.46 spent on Google advertising, $20 on StumbleUpon advertising (does anyone besides me know that?), $50 on a banner ad on a site for "adult entertainment" with the slogan "For more seeds in the city" – we wanted to see how that would go over :-) – and €86.49 on Facebook advertising. That's a total of €298.60. After deducting the advertising, that leaves €178.72. Of that, just under €50 went to the post office, and we had to buy the seeds and bags. If you add in the time we need to make the seed bombs at €10 per hour, we've incurred a hefty loss in the first month.

On the positive side, the overall order trend is upward. We've already gained 145 fans on Facebook (thanks!) and had four requests for bulk orders, one of which we've already completed. We've also learned that advertising currently only seems to pay off on Google. We've also already convinced five people to wear our T-shirts, received three reviews of our products (many thanks to the authors), and one comment on the blog (thanks, Dad ;). Our store also had 433 visitors and 1,517 page views. Each visitor spent an average of two minutes and 35 seconds with us—so in total, people have already browsed our shop for almost 17 hours.
