Survival Wallets....wallets made of Tyvek
The Paprcuts "Airmail" Wallet ( Amazon )
At a trade fair in Frankfurt, we had the nice guys from Paprcuts as our booth neighbors. They wanted seed bombs from us for their Christmas calendar, and in return, we received the " Airmail " wallet. Since we each stole two or three wallets from the booth at the trade fair, we'll use this little money transporter for a test run and then give it away.
The first positive thing I noticed was that the wallet is shipped in an envelope with minimal packaging . It's affordable and environmentally friendly: 10 points for that from Paris . What next catches your eye is the slogan " Handmade in Berlin. Not in ???, " which can be found on the packaging, the invoice, and the wallet itself. Although developing countries, in particular, are supposed to be growing, the slogan is a good one.As a resident of Hamburg, I naturally find the "Berlin, Berlin, Berlin, we're so cool" ubiquitous a bit pretentious, but to paraphrase Seth Godin, "Everyone is not your customer." So the marketing guru gives it another 8 points.
On to the product itself. First of all: Yes, the material (Tyvek) is definitely tear-resistant . You can pull and tug as much as you like and it won't break. If anything does tear, it's the seams (that's how my first Paprcuts wallet broke, but I really wanted to know). Bounty gives it a full 10 points ( the ad only gets one from Seth, by the way...). The material is also 100% waterproof . The wallet was a little too smooth for me to begin with, but that changes after a few days and then the Tyvek becomes really dirty and leathery, very Berlin. But then it feels really good. Much better than an Orson . They give it 9 points.
The biggest advantage for me, however, is that the wallet is extremely small . With a few chip cards, a few bills, and just 3-4 coins, it's not much bigger than an EC card and thinner than an old iPhone (see photo). So, if you don't tend to carry tons of coins, photos, stamps, and other junk in your wallet—in short, if you're not a woman—then Paprcuts wallets are ideal. I've been using it since the trade fair in February, where Nils gave me several wallets (it was a gift, right?), and I'm very happy with it.
