DiY: Outdoor hanging bed made from pallets
Fancy a night in the garden? Gazing at the starry sky on a cozy mattress? Our hanging pallet bed is ideal for this purpose, especially because it provides enough safety distance between you and the insects crawling in the grass. Here are the DIY instructions for recreating it:
Material:
- Two pallets (120 x 100 cm)
- Two squared timbers (2.0m long and min. 10cm wide)
- About 40 long screws
- Two approximately 6m long ropes
- mattress
Tools:
- Cordless screwdriver / screwdriver

And here we go:
Step 1: Obtain the materials . The two pallets are probably the biggest problem when it comes to acquiring the materials. Especially since they also need to look halfway decent. But don't worry, hardware stores often have some left over and will sell them for a few euros. Do you happen to have an old mattress at home? Then that's pretty much it. However, it shouldn't be much larger than the two pallets placed side by side (2.0 x 1.2 m). Alternatively, you can also buy foam at the hardware store.
A little tip for you: Dirty pallets can be easily cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner or a sponge and water, giving them a beautiful used look.

Step 2: The bed surface. First, place the pallets wide-side up against each other, creating a total area of 2.0 x 1.2 meters. Then, push the two wooden beams into the pallet like the tines of a forklift, pushing the beams right up to the outer edges of the pallet. The beams should be flush with the pallets on both sides. To make the structure truly stable, screw the beams to the top wooden boards and the sides of the pallets—there really shouldn't be any wobble; after all, you're building a place to sleep, and you want it to be secure.

...Done! Have fun hanging out
