Many myths and legends surround the origin of the custom of giving guests small presents. Some say the history of the gift goes back to ancient times. Others claim that King Louis XIV was the co-founder of this tradition, who, as early as the 17th century, presented his guests with small treasures of all kinds in precious boxes at weddings and baptisms.

The common people who wanted to follow his example naturally didn't have as much money as the noble ruler. The solution – five sugared almonds packed in a cloth bag made from the tulle of the wedding dress or veil. Since the number five is indivisible, in some countries the almonds represented the inseparability of the bride and groom. In Italy, they symbolized various hopes for the newlyweds: love, success, fidelity, the blessing of children, and happiness. Even though the wedding almonds and kind wishes seem to transcend time, the bridal veil fortunately remains intact today.

Sustainable guest gifts

This may surprise you, but we are big fans of sustainable gifts ;) No matter the occasion. Consumption is fine, but please do so sensibly! And if your guest gift also makes a small contribution to a more colorful and diverse world - all the better! Perhaps you would like to take a more contemporary approach, or are you still looking for a beautiful addition to your wedding almonds? Then give flowers (in seed form). Giving seeds is not only very trendy, but also something your guests can enjoy for a long time. It's easier if you have a motto or color theme. Ideally, the gifts should match that. This way, they'll not only put a smile on your guests' faces, but also create the right atmosphere for your wedding tables. For example, at a sustainable wedding, you'd focus on natural elements and avoid synthetic gifts (e.g., plastic). An autumn wedding would emphasize warm colors and brown tones. It's those little extras like favors that make the day special. At the same time, though, you shouldn't lose sight of the fact that your big day is, first and foremost, all about you! And your loved ones will surely know that a successful wedding always comes at a price, so they'll be happy not to get personalized champagne flutes or cigars in ebony boxes.
