Pallet raised bed as a quick-build kit
We're raised bed fans! You probably already knew this from the article " 7 Good Reasons for Raised Bed Gardening ," but we can't stress it enough: Raised beds are simply fantastic! Anyone considering a raised bed is initially faced with the question: Which is the best? We've had the best experience with the pallet raised bed and would like to briefly introduce it to you here. The raised bed can be constructed quickly, easily, and quite inexpensively. The dimensions are 120cm x 80cm. The height is variable and can be adjusted to your own height.
This is what you need:
- 3-4 pallet collars
- if necessary 1 Euro pallet
- 1 close-meshed grid
- approx. 5 sqm weed control fleece
- Staple gun or hammer and nails
- Wood stain

And this is how it works:
Step 1: The right location
Anyone planning a raised bed probably already has a location in mind. Decide in advance where you want your raised bed and also determine its orientation. Once you have the plan ready, you can put it into action. Place the Euro pallet in the location, roughly leveling any unevenness in the ground beforehand.
Step 2: The first frame
Now you can unfold the first attachment frame and place it on the Euro pallet with the hinges facing down. This should be completely problem-free and effortless...the attachments fit perfectly on the Euro pallet.

A quick tip: You could theoretically leave the pallet out. However, this only works on surfaces like grass, sand, or earth. Moving it later with a forklift is no longer possible.
Step 3: Protection against pests
Before you assemble the other attachments, you should place the vole protection on the floor of the raised bed. To do this, simply cut the mesh to the correct size with pliers; the sides can be slightly bent upwards.
Step 4: Build upwards
Stack the tops one at a time—this works best with two people. The number of tops determines the height of your bed and thus also the level of comfort while gardening and the amount of filler material needed. So consider how high you want your raised bed to be beforehand. You should use at least two tops.
Step 5: Wood protection

Step 6: Weed control fabric

To prevent the contents of the bed from slipping through the holes in the pallet base, you'll need to line the raised bed with fleece. Cut it to the correct size and staple it to the inside of the bed. If you don't have a stapler handy, you can simply hammer in small nails.
Step 7: check... and approve!
Now's your chance to double-check whether the location is truly perfect. Because once you've filled the raised bed, it won't be so easy to move. Unless you know someone with a forklift... So, is the raised bed in a good spot? Is it aligned correctly? Then just fill it, and the gardening can begin!
