How to plant seed bombs correctly
We've been rolling seed bombs since 2011. Over the years, we've tried many soil-clay-water mixtures and seed combinations, continually optimizing our seed balls. And yet, we sometimes get the feedback: "Nothing's growing!" We then always ask our customers to send us photos of the sowing so we can investigate what might be wrong. And indeed, we often notice the same issues:
The most common problems when planting seed bombs
- The flower marbles are planted, but not watered sufficiently . Especially at the beginning, the marbles need to be soaked once and then kept moist. Ideally, you should plant the flower marbles when rain is forecast for 2-3 days, or you need to water them sufficiently. If it's very hot, it also helps to soak the flower marbles in a glass of water for about 10 minutes before sowing, as a kind of jump start.
- A similar problem arises from the location. The marbles should not be placed in direct sunlight , as they will dry out very quickly, become hard again, and be unable to germinate. A partially shaded location is ideal.
- The flower marbles land on hard, compacted soil (e.g., a tree trunk in the city). Dense grass is also a common problem. With sufficient rain, the flower marbles will begin to germinate, but they quickly die because they cannot take root and absorb nutrients from the soil. Loose, humus-rich soil is ideal.
- The seed bombs are buried. Passionate gardeners, in particular, make this mistake because they cover regular seeds with soil. However, the seeds are already planted in the balls, so they don't get enough sunlight when the seed bombs are buried. Therefore, the marbles should n't be buried, but should be pressed into the soil no more than halfway .
- The marbles are simply no longer there. It sounds silly, but it happens frequently because they are carried away by animals or eaten . Here, too, it helps to press the seed bombs about halfway into the soil. This also allows them to better absorb moisture from the surrounding soil.

Where nothing else grows, the balls also have a hard time. The chances of success are slim.

Do not let the seed bombs dry out

Do not throw the marbles onto the lawn, into a meadow or onto an already overgrown surface
This is how you really do EVERYTHING right
Throw, wait, enjoy—we often use this slogan to advertise our flower marbles. And it works when nature cooperates . If you want to minimize the influence of nature as much as possible, we recommend the following approach:
- Soak the seed bombs or flower marbles in a glass of water for about 10 minutes
- Find a location that is not in direct sunlight all day and press the seed balls about halfway into the loose soil
- Keep the seed bombs moist so they do not harden again

Use good garden soil

Provide shade until germination

Keep soil and balls moist at all times
By the way, the marbles should not be exposed to frost , so the ideal throwing time is mid-May (after the Ice Saints).
Alright, enough of the boring theory. Grab your flower marbles or seed bombs and add some greenery to the gray!
