Upcycling jute bags

the-city-gardeners-upcycling-jute-bag Upcycling ideas for 8-pack seed bombs - and other jute bags

Attention craft lovers – you can create wonderful things from small (jute) bags. We've tried it and recommend everyone: give it a try. These small fabric or jute bags are simply too practical to just throw away. Our 8-pack seed bombs also come in pretty bags. We found this not only stylish but also sustainable. Because once the small, round seed bombs have been popped out, the packaging can be transformed into all sorts of great things with little effort. Watch out! Here are four ideas for upcycling jute bags.

Idea 1: For a contemplative Advent season

Okay, Christmas may still be a while away, but we know from experience: Time sometimes passes faster than you think, and before you can say "Advent, Advent, a little light is burning," Santa is at the door. So, why not think ahead and at least collect the bags for the Advent calendar, from which you'll release the seed bombs throughout the summer? Small, self-designed labels can easily be attached to the green signs on the back. Then all you have to do is hang the bags from a branch and attach them to the window or wall. Have fun crafting and filling them ;-)

Tip from Torge: Instead of filling the Advent calendar with silly knick-knacks, be creative. For example, we always have two or three recipes that we bake together, plus a "voucher for 5 x Dough Finger Licking."

Idea 2: For everything at one touch

You're standing on your bike at a traffic light when your cell phone beeps. No problem! Because you've got it right there in your pocket. Without getting off and without frantically rummaging through your backpack, you can quickly grab it – and put it away again as soon as the light turns green... none of that is a problem anymore. To create this practical shoulder bag for your valuables like your cell phone, money, or keys, simply attach a chain of the right length to the cords of the jute bag and... done! By the way: You can, of course, adapt the "cord" to your style. Braided cords, for example, look great and ensure comfortable carrying.

Also cool: For kids, you can also make a cool shoulder bag out of the jute bag - for ice cream money ;-)

Idea 3: For beautifully decorated vases

The bag isn't just great for storing things, it can also create a chic ambiance. For these pretty vases, we first removed the label on the back. There you now have two small holes in the fabric, but you can deal with that later. First, cut open the bottom of the bag with scissors and take an old jam jar. Place your jute bag over it (the cans from our Streuwiesen range also fit perfectly, by the way). Next, take a fabric or lace ribbon and wrap it around the vase. This way, the holes are no longer visible. Ready? Done! Put the flowers in and put them on the windowsill.

Tip for you: At weddings, the decorated vases make a great table decoration - for real and dried flowers or a wild mix.

Idea 4: For a fragrant wardrobe

You can recognize them by the small holes in T-shirts, socks, and the like: clothes moths. While the risk of moth infestation isn't particularly high in closed closets, you never know... Whether on the clothes rack or in the closet, moths in your wardrobe are definitely preventable. So, grab a small bag and fill it with a few mothballs, then throw it in the closet. For a more aesthetic look, you can of course label it nicely... a moth-free zone guaranteed!

A little tip: Dried aromatic herbs like lavender also find their place in the small bag – as a lovely scented sachet. Place it in your closet or simply hang it in your home, and a subtle, wonderful aroma will spread throughout the room. Absolutely fragrant, right?
